Sven Augustijnen receives the Evens Arts Prize 2011

The work of the Belgian visual artist Sven Augustijnen expands and undermines the traditional codes of documentary practice and questions the narratives underlying current political and social practices. The artist was selected as the recipient of the award by an independent jury which chose from a list of 20 internationally acclaimed artists, nominated by representatives of major European art institutions. The prize carries an award of € 15,000 and a support for a publication.

The public presentation of the award took place on 17 October 2011 at the Centre Pompidou and will première in Paris the award-winner's new film, Spectres.
The Evens Arts Prize was presented by Alain Seban, President of the Centre Pompidou.The screening was followed by a discussion with Sven Augustijnen, Bernard Blistène, Director of the Department of Cultural Development of the Centre Pompidou and Dork Zabunyan, writer and co-author of Foucault goes to the cinema.

In 2011, solo shows of the artist take place at Wiels Center for Contemporary Art in Brussels, Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen, Kunsthalle Bern and  de Appel Amsterdam. A special screening of Spectres will be also held at the Tate Modern, on 22 November 2011.
